The above I'm sure you've seen before, it in all sizes (these were linked too) , here's a link to the page if you want to look at it xhttp://www.pay-fair.com/category/recommendedsportsbooks/ I'm sure its for SEO, just wondering how on earth something that looks like that, can be of any larger benefit over a nicely-neat typed version, where the links are all the same in size etc.

Those tag clouds really get to me... they look absolutely ridiculous and as far as I can see, serve no real purpose to the visitor. IMO -Just another form of keyword stuffing. Surely the SE's don't place any weight in them.

I wouldn't think so either, but I did find this one on a first page, I think it was for rival casinos list or something like that.
they would (I think) work against a site since as you mentioned, it is clearly keyword stuffing. and an ugly job of it to boot .

Ya, they appear quite often on wordpress blog type sites, it must be an seo plug-in they offer.
I don't use WP and know very little about it, but on the one site I did use it on, the default tag system grabbed every word that was repeated a couple of times... otherwise you had to manually add each tag word/phase individually. On my Blogspot blog, I add the tag words manually. It only takes a minute and ensures the tags are relevant to the post.

Just to clarify... the tag cloud referred to in Steve's post is linking to internal posts that also contain the keywords listed in the cloud. Blogs and some forums offer the option of adding tags to posts. In most cases those tags are listed at the end of the post/thread and link to other internal threads or posts that also contain those tag words.
In some cases, the tags serve a legit purpose but when incorporated into a tag cloud such as Steve linked to, they look shitty (spammy) and serve very little purpose since most visitors will not click the links inside the cloud... in my humble opinion.
