Now I have a problem with Facebook - Gambling Affiliate Place: Programs and Webmasters Forum

Hi all and thanks for coming in,

Please keep in mind that I am certain that yes, there may exist some sort of settings etc, at facebook, which prevents my 14 year old, that's right, 14 freakin' years old, from having her picture not only shown to me as being a potential friend, but actually freakin' EMAILED TO ME just in case seeing her picture pop up at facebook, wouldn't be enough to entice my interest.

yes I"m pretty damn hot right now.

Let me tell you something. You don't for any reason, no matter what, turn loose a situation which potentially connects 40 (allright, 45 ... all right, 47 .. trying to lighten the moment lol) to connect them with 14 year old girls as being a good choice for someone to add as a friend request.

Grrr. here comes the anger again. .... that as I would assume, allows them to message my daughter, WTF?

I got it in my email box, her picture along with others , (I didn't look too close to see whether the others were all young or not, but some were) as people I should request for friends.

This seems so cut and dried to me, and I can't believe no law suits have come ,.... not too mention legal actions.

Very freakin' simple. You don't under any circumstances short of the approval by the guardian, allow grown men to have access to teenage girls' pictures, CONTACT INFO (GRRRR) for any reason.

The risk does outweigh whatever stupid benefit comes from bringing kids and grown ups together in the same small area.

FB has GOT to be a pedophiles wet dream. Same for men seeking to woo underage girls (not the same as pedophile, at least the teen girls are smart enough to know what could likely happen = understand about ***)

I would love 5 minutes (make that ten, I'll need to stop and rest for 60 seconds at midway, so my beating will still have plenty of oomph in it when the time is up) with the stupid, obviously arrogant bas tard that thought this would be okay because as long as everybody follows the rules ... it'll be okay.

How many others don't have a clue about how to do half the stuff on FB? I don't, and I don't have time to spend learning everything. What are the odds anybody else either .. besides the people seeking to stay out of the limelight ... would know either?

Hell half the time I'm just pushing buttons until it works or blows up and i have to buy a new one.

and that said: my ignorance, has nothing to do with the fact that she can have her picture show up in an email like that.

Aside from perhaps having the same address (which I remind could be a single building with half a dozen different renters staying there) being the same, and that we both went to the same school (30 years difference) ... just what, under FB's incredible wisdom, do they (myself and the 14 yr old girl) ... have in common that would suggest that FB ever even let me know she existed?

I'm sure that there is some explanation. I'm just as certain that unless they have a signed note from Jesus saying it's okay, .... that I am going to vehemently disagree with the answer they reply.

And no, the kids should not be allowed to decide who is family / friends / etc.

The thing is Steve, this is all just software. And, while I've never added my 19 year old niece as a friend on Facebook, it's not unreasonable that she should appear as a potential friend, considering I date her aunt and am friends with both her brother and her mother.

All Facebook does is make some reasonable assumptions based on mutual friends about who you might be interested in befriending.

well I understand that, but in the interest of safety (safety first, right?) ... there's just now reason for them to be suggesting this stuff.

I can see if i had typed in her name, looked her up, and sent a request (which in MHO that too, should have to be allowed by the parent) but at least that way I already knew she existed, didn't just see her pretty face and be interested (because the rest of the people in the email were unknown to me), what if was cruising to perv on some teenager? wait I don't have to cruise, she's been delivered to me via email.

I just believe this is yet another giant mistake that is bringing kids and those we don't want them in physical contact with ... to being one step closer to the afore mentioned.

Steve, i totally understand your anger and i would also react the same way..

Facebook needs to have some type of law, rules, whatever that they need to follow that limits the age of a person that they can send as a freind suggestion to anyone. Facebook members over the age of 21, and if they leave thier age out of their profile, then they should not be able to send them either.

I would suggest that you write a "strong" letter to them (perhaps have your attorney send the letter), that mentions your problem here. I'm sure that Facebook doesn't encourage 47 years olds to meet 14 year olds, but perhaps their initial match criteria are things like: locale, sir name, hobbies, etc., with age not a matching factor. I dunno. My oldest (almost 20) is a major Facebook user, and I constantly remind her to be careful what she posts, and who she "talks to". Scary world we live in.....

It really is.

and facebook as i am understanding it to be ... started out as bringing schoolmates back together which in my case it was a small town that has eventually been eaten up by the city to the north, and of course we get to enjoy all the good and bad that comes with it.

but anyway if you didn't know me and came around the high school where I went (info easily available to anyone on facebook) then asked around a little bit and bingo, you'd have where we live and if you were really lucky and happened upon one of the girls friends .. . could probably get a schedule to go with the address.

I've handed it off to their mother. Too much going on right now for me to deal with that too. I have about a ton of links to casino33 and riverboat, to take down. sigh.
