On my local news the other night they did a bit on how Facebook has decided to start charging members $14.99 to have an account now??? Are they nuts? would you pay that?
I think the reasoning behind this, without them saying so is because if you notice everyone on facebook now is using the site to promote something or another, so they must have decided there are too many members doing this now to police it and make them stop, so they might as well start charging and making a profit if others are using them to profit? Does that seem right?...All i know is if they start charging, i am outta of there faster than you can say boo....back to "my space" for me....lol

I dunno if they would be seriously considering charging a monthly membership fee. It sounds to me like those stupid emails you get saying msn is going to charge for their email accounts or whatever. I'll be very surprised if this is true.

Yeah, it's rubbish. Just not true. If Facebook do think about charging then TechCrunch and Mashable would have the news first and, well, they don't.

It's pretty obvious why they want to charge: they need to make money, they want to do a big IPO and want to show great profits before. BTW i've been told by a couple of others that facebook ad performance sucked, which i also found. So they probably need to find a better, more steady revenue stream
I think it's unlikely the would start charging normal accounts, rather they'd charge businesses for their accounts, fan pages or add more features for paid accounts. Strangely, a year ago i wanted to avoid facebook, but broke down because friends and family were all using it as their way spreading news; now I'd pay $10 to 15 a year for my personal account. |

Not sure if this is true or not, but if it is, they can kiss their market share good-bye. Young people are their major constituents, and they don't have money. If they charge, people will flee to other Social Networking sites that are still free. BTW, they make money through advertisements. If that ain't enough, let them raise their advertising rates.

I think that at least at this point in time, that the branding impact is excellent for facebook. Something that can't actually be tracked and assigned a number but that doesn't mean it can't be huge. At this point in time, I believe that people have a very unguarded attitude when at facebook. They're seeing old friends, which as the saying goes, time heals all wounds, so whatever reason (if any) that saw your path part from that of your old friends, has long been forgotten. You're just glad to see them. You know that it is likely that your old friends are there for the same reason you are: to see old friends. Now under such jovial conditions, you see in the background the casinoX.com brand name. Over, and over again. Just hanging around in the background. Now some time later you're in the mood to gamble. You find a site with a list of casinos. and there's good ol' casinoX.com amongst them. My bet would be that it will be casinoX.com that is chosen. if facebook turns into something sleazier, then the branding worth gees way down. In other words if people become guarded when at facebook then there is no worth in using them for branding purposes (IMHO).

Yes their ads suck because people are there socializing.
I wasn't advertising online gambling, i was advertising a facebook page for my lottery site. $1 a click to get people to facebook page? I guess someone might pay it, but nobody advertising free content could afford this here is the info from what i was testing. CPC Bid: $0.05 edit Suggested bid: $0.87 - 1.04 USD Targeting * who live in the United States * age 18 and older * who like lottery, lotto or powerball * who speak English (UK), English (Pirate) or English (US) * who are not already connected to Lottery News Service |

I'm really surprised that advertising a lottery page wouldn't fall under the same as a casino page, truth is, they're both gambling. (only with lottery, you aren't bothered with any of that pesky .... "payback" that you hear so much about.
![]() seriously, I'm surprised they would sell you traffic. $1 a click, that's a lot

I know everyone seems to think this new charge of $14.99 is rubbish, bullshit..etc...but I did see it on the Weekly Nightly News on CBS with Katie, so there had to be some kind of truth to it, so just keep an eye out and see what happens.
I have never promoted this site on facebook, but i should, i see everyone else promoting there sites, thier links to casinos with their affiliate tags, and it must be working, so what the hell!
