Hi all,

Just had a reminder of what I should (and do usually but this time I misjudged) know NEVER to do which is let any AM you have that is from another Niche ... to know you do gambling web sites because you may get what I am now dealing with which is when i mentioned I have some gambling portals they freaked out ... I don't know if I've got an account with them or not until I get a reply back. I told them their links would never be on the gambling sites ... why would I ever risk such valuable traffic to lose them to any other niche?

Anyway lesson I'm continued to learn is ... just don't. Just don't mention any ties to gambling until you're very confortable with the relationship and even then you might be risking your business relationship which can really hurt depending on the amount you have tied up into that sponsor.

Oh man that sucks, but if you have not connected your separate businesses by now, they should realize you won't! Just nitpicking i believe.

Could be. She's a new AM and this isn't like with gambling where they are much easier to accept affs.

the less said the better.

Generally, I found that many people frown on gambling. in the rare occasions that I have to, I just refer to my gambling site as an advertising site.

What i am baffled at with this, is how can one "employer" dictate what you do with your time? I mean if you have two jobs, and one does not involve the other one, where does one get off trying to "threaten" you into giving up the other job? These are you own websites, you do not link them together at all, they are not in direct conflict or competition with each other, how is it "ok" for them to refuse your work, because of something that has absolutely nothing to do with them?

The gall of some places just amaze me.

Here's a do that works for me.

I like to put my user name and password in my favorites by adding them to the name. To add security you can always change the last letter to the first or add a letter or number ... then simply remember to always remove that number/letter you added etc,

that way you're not constantly having to contact support or lose down time when trying to get a banner etc.

another thing I wish I had done from the start was to have created an email address just for my aff stuff.

I wish I had used more generic names for my pages despite any SEO benefits if any.

I know what you mean.

I have a ton of pages that are titled things like "slots bonus casinos" .. etc

and they're all sloppily approached attempts at seo'ing a keyword phrase.

When I first started out i had a motto .. nothing comes down. Better to catch some free traffic on a page that's out of date than not at all.

I have a hard time getting away from that because usually that's one of the few places I pick up any free traffic ...

I followed the strategy "Give 100 monkeys, 100 typewriters, and within a 100 years one of them will write a shakespeare play".

so this little monkey got busy and made as many pages towards 100 as he could and every once in a while i get some traffic to one of them.

......

Oh I came in to add that you shouldn't completely forsake sponsors whom were disappointments because as I and I imagine many others recently learned ... situations can change and you can find yourself with nobody else to promote BUT those whom you had given up on before.

Yes it might take eating a little pride, but you can avoid having to eat too much by simply not burning the bridge ... just don't use it very often.

because some day may come when the only way across the water is that very bridge.

This is not an easy line to walk because generally when people are giving up on a sponsor .. there's some passion involved if only disappointment.

I have learned that despite the urge to perhaps tell them where to stick it .. that the wiser move for the long run is to politely state why you can no longer promote them and then just move on.

Fortunate for me ... that is generally my nature anyway so that's how i handled things with some of the sponsors whom I now am counting on ... and in hopes of a brighter future with them.
